How to stop drinking at home

Avoid alcohol

According to the latest data, half a million people die from alcoholism in one country every year, much more than from natural disasters and epidemics. These shocking statistics show that early action is needed. Many are aware of this, but only 1. 7% of people with alcoholism seek medical help. The rest do not want to be treated in specialized centers or try to stop drinking at home.

Methods for eliminating alcohol addiction

To treat alcoholism at home, special drugs, folk recipes, auto-training and other techniques are used. The main thing when choosing is to use only those methods that are characterized by minimal risk

The goals of taking medicines and folk remedies are:

  • Cleansing the body from toxic substances;
  • Eliminate the main symptoms of quitting alcohol (headache, nausea, tremors, etc. );
  • prevents relapse.

folk remedies

Traditional medicine has many recipes in its arsenal to help you stop drinking at home. They help cleanse the body of toxins, develop an aversion to alcoholic beverages, and strengthen the immune system.

The following tools are commonly used:

  • St. John's wort decoction. Dry grass (4 handfuls) is poured with 1 liter of boiling water and kept in a water bath for half an hour. Taken twice a day for two weeks;
  • Marigold broth with oats. Water (2 liters) is poured into a container, and grains of unrefined oats are poured on a third of the dishes, and then boiled over low heat for 15-20 minutes. Marigolds (100 grams) are added to the strained broth. Then the container is well insulated and left for 11-12 hours. Drink the resulting drink 250 ml before eating once a day;
  • Bearberry Broth. Leaves (40 grams) are poured with water (1 cup) and boiled for 15 minutes. Take 20 ml 6 times a day;
  • Herbal infusion. Mix equal servings of dried herbs (chamomile or wormwood, thyme and centaury), pour boiling water and leave for 3 hours. The filtered infusion is taken three times a day at 40 milliliters.

Traditional healers may also suggest giving the patient decoctions, after the use of which they experience vomiting and aversion to alcohol:

  • Bay roots and lovage are crushed and poured with vodka infused for 14 days;
  • European cleft hoof leaves are poured with boiling water and left in a dark place for 2 weeks. The resulting tincture is mixed with vodka in equal proportions and given to the patient in the morning and at noon, and in the evening he is poured pure vodka.

The above decoctions should only be used after consulting a doctor, as the ingestion of some herbs may be contraindicated. If you don't take them into account, you can cause harm to the body instead of benefiting from it.

In order for folk remedies to achieve the desired effect, you need to drink them for a long time (at least 2 months). It is also recommended to clean enemas, drink more water, and bathe more.

drugs

You should not choose your own medication, for this you need to consult a narcologist. He will prescribe a suitable remedy, taking into account the individual characteristics of the organism.

Typically, those who want to stop drinking recommend the following:

  • Enterosorbents (to remove residues of ethyl alcohol and its decomposition products from the intestine);
  • diuretics (to cleanse the body);
  • antihypertensive drugs (with increased pressure);
  • analeptics (for pain in the heart area);
  • sleeping pills (for insomnia).

Drinking pleasurable means can be used to stop drinking. As a result, there is no relaxation and euphoria, only negative consequences remain, which gradually weaken the desire for alcohol. A special group of drugs causes an aversion to alcohol. Such drugs do not work for a long time, which is why they are taken for long courses. The need for admission is determined by the doctor.

Using hypnosis

You can currently find recommendations for conducting a hypnosis session at home on the Internet. This method does not require a lot of time (5 to 10 minutes per day is enough) and money costs. The addict should not know about him. The disadvantage of this method is that influencing the psyche takes a very long time (several months and in some cases even a year). To save time and avoid negative influences, it is better to prefer medical care with an amateur approach.

In general, there are a few rules to be followed when hypnosis at home:

  • The session is carried out in a deep sleep phase (during this time the body rests and the brain remains active and receptive to signals);
  • When the patient falls asleep, stand near the head of the bed and repeat prepared sentences motivating them to stop drinking in a voice with appropriate intonations.
  • The text should contain an explanation to reject alcohol in a positive form (for example: "alcohol makes you disgusted");
  • You cannot use the "not" particle as the result is the opposite (human consciousness does not perceive the negative particle);
  • You are not allowed to use the incentive form ("give up alcohol"), but must replace it with a confirmation of the result ("you give up alcohol easily");
  • believe the result.

Disadvantages of home therapy

It is difficult to stop drinking at home and there are a number of rules that are important to follow.

  • The action of measures is possible when the disease is in its early stages. In advanced stages, physical and mental disorders are observed that only a specialist can cope with.
  • The patient should want to get rid of the bad habit himself. Forcibly, a person cannot stop drinking. In this case, only a temporary effect is possible.
  • It will be necessary to create the most comfortable conditions by protecting the patient from stressful situations, which often lead to failure, and by offering support.
  • You have to give up alcohol entirely.

Even so, the fight against alcohol at home rarely ends with 100% success. This situation is caused for the following reasons:

  • Lack of required qualifications and sufficient experience of doctors;
  • There is a high risk of failure;
  • There is no sustained motivation in an addict (in the clinic, it is better to understand the dangers of alcohol and the need to give up a bad habit);
  • there is a lack of psychological support (even if the patient's family members sincerely try to help him, they cannot make him believe that he can stop drinking. Only a psychotherapist can instill such confidence in his consciousness).

Also, they often become alcoholics to distract themselves from the surrounding reality and forget about problems. In such cases, it is necessary to find out and eliminate the cause of alcohol addiction, which is available only to a specialist.

Since you have to stop drinking abruptly, another problem with home treatment is the impossibility of providing complete relief from alcohol poisoning. These negative consequences are:

  • high blood pressure;
  • cardiac arrhythmia;
  • heart failure;
  • Malfunction of the digestive system;
  • Delirium tremens (in very advanced cases).

In such cases, a specialist will prescribe detoxification therapy.

There is no point in risking the health of a loved one. To stop drinking one has to go to a specialist clinic where the patient receives qualified medical care.
